Abstract:

Five specimens of Myopterus, caught in Senegal in 1973, allow to clarify the taxonomical status of Myopterus daubentonii Desmarest, 1820 (Chiroptera: Molossidae). A neotype is designated, housed in the Museum national d’Histoire naturelle (MNHN), in Paris. Relationships between the so-called M. daubentonii, M. albatus and M. whitleyi are discussed; it is suggested that M. albatus might be a mere subspecies of M. daubentonii. New localities are given - or even resurrected - for this rare and poorly known genus: i.e. Gabon and Uganda (M. whitleyi), Central African Republic (M. daubentonii albatus).
