Abstract: | A collection of 80 specimens of bats (of 14 species) is described from the lower Kouilou and Mayombe (Congo). Two species are new to the Congo fauna (Rhinolophus alcyone, Hipposideros cyclops) and a third (Scotonycteris ophiodon) is one of the rarest African bats. Four other species have apparently not previously been reported from the Mayombe. Interesting skull characters are described in some Megachiroptera (Scotonycteris, Megaloglossus). Breeding data are presented and species’ distributions discussed. Reference is made to the other species of bats reported elsewhere in Congo, and a checklist presented of the 34 species known to date. |
