Abstract:

Five species of Nycteria from Central Africa (Gabon and Congo-Brazzaville) were studied. They are divided into 2 distinct groups: the parasites of Nycteris with rosette-like gametocytes (Nycteria medusiformis, N. houini sp. nov. and N. erardi sp. nov.) and the parasites of Rhinolophus with gametocytes of the diffused type (N. gabonensis sp. nov. and N. krampitzi sp. nov.). The characteristics of the genus Nycteria and its place among other Haemosporidia are analyzed.
